THE CHURCH DOES NOT HAVE A MISSION:
IT IS MISSION

After the resurrection, Jesus commissioned the Apostles to baptise all nations and share the Good News of the Gospel!!!  The Church itself does not have a mission but is mission.  The very essence and heart of the Church is to always be in motion—changing and adapting so that Christ may be visible, present and proclaimed in every age.

Sometimes we think that Church is simply going to Mass on Sunday and attending some nice events.  The role of our parish communities is to be hubs for the Holy Spirit to inspire, ignite and empower all of us to be MISSION in this world.  The only way this can happen is if we fall in love with Jesus and place Him at the centre of our lives.

HOMILY #1
WHAT IS THE MISSION?

In the first homily of this series Fr. John reminds us that the Church does not have a mission that is some kind of add-on to what we do day to day.  The Church is mission—that the very essence of who we are as the Church is be constantly sharing the Gospel.  Fr. John references the most recent October 2023 Synod summary document to highlight this and even talks about THE VINYL CAFE Arthur Awards!!

HOMILY #2
WHERE EVERYBODY KNOWS YOUR NAME

Fr. John continues the series with this second homily reflecting on the responsibility we have with the talents, gifts and resources that have been given to us by God to be shared. Our faith communities are really families always welcoming and encouraging others to join on the pilgrimage to heaven. Fr. John even talks about the old tv comedy CHEERS!! – a place where everybody knows your name!

FALLING IN LOVE WITH JESUS – PRAYER & CONVERSION

Fr. John concludes the series by referring to the first reading and the gospel this weekend as very clear indicators of what the mission of the Church is—Fr. John also presented the new pastoral year of PRAYER & CONVERSION. We need to fall in love with Christ if we are going to follow Him.
