It is wonderful when we have epiphany moments in our lives. Sometimes these great moments of wisdom or grace occur in good times but they often happen in moments of trouble, struggle or challenge. Regardless of the circumstances, we need to embrace the pearls or hidden treasure of grace and see them as opportunities to grow and share our lives with others.
In this chapter, David shares his traumatic experience of being in a car accident when he was 15 years old. Life changes when you realize that none of us are immortal. He realized he needed to appreciate more and more the people in his life. We too sometimes forget and disregard the treasures in our lives and take them for granted. It is good to see with open hearts the countless blessings that God offers to us.
As faithful disciples we need to have open eyes and hearts to see the valuable pearls and treasures in our lives as moments of truth that help us be signs of hope in this world. The discovery of truth and light helps shape who we are and where we are headed. Life lessons are what help us keep what is important close to our hearts and let go those things that are not necessary — yet sometimes those things dominant our time.
What do we value most in our lives? What are the pearls of wisdom, truth and tradition that we want to pass on to our children and the next generation? Where do I search to discover the hidden treasure, pearl or large catch of fish that are signs of truth and light?
